The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

The good

BRACE yourselves, there's a sensible-shoe revival afoot. After years of crazy heels, the lower-height shoe has returned to favour with the fashion world. Stella McCartney's Scholl-style mini wedges, Louis Vuitton's clunky clogs by Marc Jacobs, Marni's sporty kitten heels – they are all at it. Even Tamara Mellon, boss of Jimmy Choo, a label synonymous with jet-set party shoes, can't wait to wear a pair of her label's forthcoming new hi-tops when they launch in May. But if you would rather eat your own arm than be seen in flats, there is no need to panic. There are still some heels out there (see Versace). The real questions is where you will stand in the great shoe debate.

The bad

EVER visited an organic shop and blown your weekly budget in one go? We've been marvelling for quite some time over quite how much a handful of alfalfa sprouts, a tub of granola and a few bananas can come to. Less of a surprise was news that organic food sales have fallen by 30 per cent during the credit crunch. Whether the organic market will weather the storm remains to be seen, but it would appear that the tide has started to turn.

The ugly

WOMEN have always been described as the fairer sex, but it would seem that men are not quite as happy to be upstaged by the ladies as they used to be. According to the Good Surgeon Guide website, there has been an 82 per cent rise in men going under the knife since January 2009. Silicon pecs, anyone? We didn't think so. Still, who are we to get in the way of equality.
