Waltz into 2011 with the RSNO

FANCY bringing in the New Year in classical style? Then check out either - or both - of the following concerts.

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) welcome 2011 in traditional Viennese style at the Usher Hall tomorrow, when conductor David Danzmayr and soprano Sarah Tynan front an evening of waltzes, polkas and mazurkas from the Strauss family and friends. With a programme that includes On The Beautiful Blue Danube, Overture to Die Fledermaus and the Emperor Waltz, to name but a few, the RSNO's New Year Viennese Gala has become a popular date on Edinburgh concert-goers' calendars.

Over in Corstorphine tomorrow afternoon, the Edinburgh Incidental Orchestra (EIO) marks the debut of the Edinburgh Incidental Orchestra Chorus, with a performance of Handel's Messiah. This new ensemble returns for its fourth concert under the baton of musical director Calum Zuckert and chorus master Ben Fowler. The EIO was set up to provide a unique opportunity for young musicians to perform and be involved in the running of an orchestra.
