BALFOUR BEATTY has begun work on the £28 million Portobello High School, seen above in an artist’s impression.

It will be the largest school in Edinburgh, serving 1,400 pupils.

The company will be responsible for the design and construction of the three-storey school, swimming pool and two
all-weather sports pitches.

The main construction works are due to start in October, with the school scheduled to be opened in August 2016.
