EnerMech investing in Australia

Engineering company EnerMech said yesterday it had invested £10 million in its Australian operation as it continues to make inroads in the country’s booming oil and gas sector.

The Aberdeen-based firm, which recently secured £40m from its bank and private backers to fuel its growth ambitions, said it had opened a new 3,200 square metre facility near Perth, Western Australia.

EnerMech has also opened an office with 12 staff in Sale, Victoria, after winning a five-year crane maintenance contract with Esso, and has made a number of senior appointments in Australia.

Managing director Doug Duguid said: “The Australian hydrocarbon market is in the midst of massive investment and development and we recognise its importance as a key sector in shaping the growth and success of EnerMech.”

He said that after initially entering the Australian cranes and lifting market, the firm had consolidated its presence and was now offering a full range of pre-commissioning, engineering, equipment and training services.

“We have more than 40 full-time staff based in Australia now, and with the facilities and a highly skilled team in place to support larger projects, we expect the size of our business to more than treble in the next two years,” he said.
