Skyscanner loss

SKYSCANNER, the Edinburgh-based flight comparison website, made an operating loss of £1.4 million on a 75 per cent increase in turnover to £3.5m in the year to the end of May 2009.

The firm, which is backed by Scottish Equity Partners, ascribed the loss to a major investment in its technology, workforce and marketing.

Co-founder Gareth Williams said Skyscanner is set to return to profitability this year.

He said: "We invested aggressively during the period to fuel our international growth strategy."
