Debate on curriculum delay

ONE of Scotland's leading teaching unions is to debate an emergency motion calling for a delay in introducing the new curriculum.

The Scottish Secondary Teachers' Association (SSTA) will discuss demanding a year's delay in the introduction of the Curriculum for Excellence.

It follows calls last week for a postponement from the planned August date because of a lack of funding and materials.

Ann Ballinger, SSTA general secretary, will write to education secretary Michael Russell urging him not to introduce the curriculum in August if the motion is backed at a meeting of the union's ruling council next week.
