50 firefighters tackle pub blaze

FIFTY firefighters were called to tackle a blaze above an Edinburgh pub yesterday.

The fire broke out at about 11am between the first-floor function suite of the Meadow Bar and the flat above it in Buccleuch Street.

No-one was inside the pub or the flat above, but a man and woman were rescued from the top floor of the five-storey tenement building by ladder.
