9am Briefing: Man in court charged with teen's murder

A MAN is due to appear in court today charged with the murder of 17-year-old Dale Bennett.

The teenager died in the early hours of Saturday morning shortly after the attack in Gorebridge, Midlothian.

His parents have paid tribute to the teen, who they said was a "very caring and loving person".

• POLICE have been criticised for failing to respond to repeated 999 calls from a takeaway owner whose shop was being attacked by a gang of 20 armed youths.

Police Complaints Commissioner Professor John McNeill asked Lothian and Borders police to explain why no officers attended when Jing Guo made 10 panicked calls from Hong Kong Express in Sighthill over a period of 90 minutes.

• The Scottish Government has been accused of colluding with BAA over the introduction of a 1 "kiss and fly" charge at Edinburgh Airport.

Ministers had always distanced themselves from the charge, but documents released under freedom of information legislation show that senior policy officer Martin Ritchie had attended meetings with BAA to discuss the charge, commenting that it was "too low".
