Abundance has its eye on your fruit

A SCHEME to encourage people to harvest fruit around the Capital is looking for volunteers - and unpicked fruit.

The Abundance community project was launched last year to raise awareness of locally-grown fruit from trees and bushes that might otherwise go unpicked.

Volunteers are invited to visit gardens around the city to pick fruit and distribute it to owners, neighbours and homelessness charities.

Organiser Abby Nicol said: "Picking and sharing fruit is a great way to meet neighbours and get a little bit more connected to our food supply.

"There are some really unique varieties of apple growing in Edinburgh and there's plenty of fruity things you can make with them and freeze or store for the cold months ahead."
