Andy Murray’s Wimbledon semi-final victory over Jerzy Janowicz last night drew the highest peak BBC television audience of the year so far.

The BBC said a five-minute peak of 13.24million people watched on the BBC as Murray completed a four-set victory to book his place in tomorrow’s final against Novak Djokovic.

That figure was almost two million higher than the peak audience for Murray’s victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the same stage last year, while the Scot’s quarter-final win over Fernando Verdasco on Wednesday attracted 10.4million at its peak.

Last year’s final between Murray and Roger Federer was watched by a peak audience of 17million people.
