Astronomers shed light on dark matter

Astronomers are studying the debris of a massive intergalactic collision to gain fresh understanding of the universe.

Researchers, including those from Edinburgh University, are using very powerful telescopes to study the aftermath of the collision - dubbed Pandora's Cluster - which took place over the past 350 million years.

Their evidence provides new insights into the behaviour of dark matter, which is the most common material in the universe but cannot be seen.

Dr Richard Massey, of Edinburgh University, said: "Pandora's Cluster has unleashed a new range of phenomena."
