Building sites under safety spotlight in inspections
Inspectors from the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) will visit workplaces of high-risk activity – such as working at height – and ensuring sites are tidy with clear access routes.
The move is part of a month-long drive to improve standards across Britain in some of the most dangerous industries.

Hide AdThere were 30 serious injuries at construction sites in the city last year, while nationally one person died and there were 345 serious injuries.
John Blackburn, HSE’s principal inspector for construction in Edinburgh, said: “The refurbishment sector continues to be the most risky for construction workers, all too often straightforward practical precautions are not considered.
“In many cases, simple changes to working practices can make all the difference.
“Poor management of risks in this industry is unacceptable.”
