Call to stop drink reward

Former GP and Lothians SNP MSP Ian McKee wants to ban supermarkets from giving out alcohol through customer reward schemes.

He has tabled an amendment to the Scottish Government's Alcohol Bill to prevent the practice.

He said: "Customer loyalty schemes are giving people alcohol as a 'reward' for shopping in their stores. How do we expect people to change their drinking habits if alcohol is given out as a reward?"
