College chief to step down

Professor Bill McKelvey, the chief executive and principal of the Scottish Agricultural College, has announced he will step down next January after ten years in the job.

Prof McKelvey, who first joined the college in 1988, saw it become a fully-fledged higher education institution offering a wide range of degrees and led a major reorganisation of its operations.

He was honoured with election as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh earlier this week.
