Drinks aren't on the house

A HISTORIC mansion which became popular with real ale drinkers as the Johnsburn House pub is to be converted back to residential use.

The owners of the Johnsburn Road mansion, constructed in 1895, have won planning permission to transform it into a house, form an integrated studio cottage in the stables block and erect a double garage.

The transformation is likely to be lamented by the Campaign For Real Ale, which has long feared that such a move was on the cards. The B-listed property was designed by renowned architect Sir George Washington Browne.
