Dunbar poet honoured by fellow writers

DUNBAR poet Colin Will has been appointed Makar to the Federation of Writers Scotland.

He was awarded the honour in recognition of the calibre of his work, established reputation as a poet and editor and unstinting support of poets and poetry in Scotland.

His installation as Makar - the old Scots word for poet or bard - took place at the Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow.

Mr Will said: "I'm delighted. It was a vote from my fellow writers so I'm really pleased to have had the recognition."

Past convener Alan Gay said: "This honour also acknowledges the contribution that Colin has made as a teacher of poetry and recognises the many projects he has worked on to the benefit of writers throughout Scotland."

The Federation of Writers Scotland is an organisation dedicated to making the written and spoken word available to the public, with respect for diversity and recognition of additional support needs.
