Glen Loovens may be on his way to Wales

CELTIC defender Glenn Loovens could be on his way back to Cardiff City, with reports in Wales last night linking him with a one-year loan move to the Championship club.

Loovens, 26, has struggled to hold down a regular first-team place under Parkhead manager Neil Lennon and a return to Cardiff could pave the way for a permanent transfer.

The Dutch centre-back joined Cardiff City in 2005 from Feyenoord and stayed for three seasons. before joining Celtic during 2008 for 2.5m.

It is believed Celtic would only sanction the departure of Loovens if they had another defender lined up to take his place. Lennon has already sanctioned the departure of defenders Josh Thompson to Rochdale and Darren O'Dea to Ipswich, both on loan.

Meanwhile, a report in Spain has linked Celtic with the Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia.

Aranzubia, who made his name with Athletic Bilbao, is valued at 4m.
