Google chief gives city talk

The head of internet giant Google is to deliver the MacTaggart Lecture at this year's Edinburgh Television Festival.

Dr Eric Schmidt will talk about the impact of the internet on the television industry, and said it was "a great honour" to be asked to speak in August.

He said: "I have always been a profound optimist about the potential for technology to improve people's lives, though I am also a realist and understand it can be immensely disruptive. So I look forward to discussing the opportunities and challenges ahead."
