Grand Theft Auto VI: Where is the game based, release date and more

The release window for Grand Theft Auto 6 has been confirmed.

There has been an update to the release date of Grand Theft Auto VI.

Developed by Rockstar Games, a division of Take-Two Interactive, the latest instalment to the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) franchise is one of the most anticipated games of all time.

It was confirmed that the game would be released in 2025 following the first trailer reveal in December 2023, and now a release window has been shared with the public.

The trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI has been revealed.

The trailer reveal was set to coincide with Rockstar's 25th anniversary, while the game itself won't be released until 2025.

Sam Houser, the founder of Rockstar Games, said: “Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences.

“We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.”

The first game in the Grand Theft Auto series was created by Scottish developers David Jones and Mike Dailly under DMA Design, which is now known as Rockstar North.

GTA 6 release date

In a recent update, Rockstar confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will be released sometime in autumn 2025.

Amid rumours of a delay Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two, shared in an interview with IGN that they were “highly confident” that the game could be delivered on time.

What did the GTA 6 trailer show?

Set to Love is a Long Road by Tom Petty, the first GTA VI trailer shows the franchise's first female protagonist Lucia, who is seemingly in prison.

As is typical for the series, the trailer includes footage of cars, strip clubs and other antics jumping between the inner city and the beach shown off in through TikTok-style clips.

Fans have praised the graphics and the hints which were shown of the game's maps.

Where is GTA 6 based?

GTA 6 will return to Vice City, which was last seen in 2006 game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories which is set in 1984. The firmly modern setting will allow the developers to show off their version of Miami, Florida with characters shown escorting alligators out of pools.

GTA 6 won't launch on PC

In a release, Take-Two Interactive have confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will not launch on PC.

The firm shared that the game will be available on PlayStation 5 as well as on Xbox Series X|S, but there has been no comment on when PC gamers will able to join in on the fun.

Will GTA 6 be cross platform?

While the release of GTA 6 on PlayStation and Xbox has been confirmed, fans are still awaiting news on if the game will be cross platform.

Nothing has been said, however, it seems unlikely that the much-anticipated instalment will support cross platform gameplay given that Grand Theft Auto V, which was released in 2013, can still only be played by those using the same platform.

How long has GTA 6 been in development?

Grand Theft Auto VI has reportedly been in development since 2014, though Rockstar didn't acknowledge the project until February 2022.
