'Guggenheim' plan catches on

ABERDEEN has followed in Dundee's footsteps by announcing an international design competition for a public square, with its own hopes for a "Scottish Guggenheim", as part of the controversial £140 million project.

The economic forum leading Aberdeen's Civic Square proposals said yesterday it was opening up the project to international designers, and a major gallery or museum had been identified as one of its main aspirations.

Last month, ambitious proposals were unveiled to build an outpost of London's Victoria and Albert Museum on Dundee's waterfront.
