Health volunteers in line for a £1 million windfall

VOLUNTARY groups which provide health care across Edinburgh could stand to benefit from a £1 million Scottish Government investment.

Around 77 organisations across the country will be handed a share of the cash, aimed at boosting children's care and mental health groups.

The money has come from Holyrood's Voluntary Sector Development Fund, with ministers saying such set-ups provide valuable assistance to frontline health workers.

Children's minister Adam Ingram said: "Scotland's voluntary care organisations have a key role to play in ensuring that our most vulnerable people receive the high-quality support and care they need.

"By investing in the qualifications and training of staff in those organisations, we are helping to develop Scotland's workforce, while also helping to raise care standards and promote continuous learning.

"This is important for ensuring all of us get the sort of support and services we need and which Scotland deserves."
