They chased the group to the corner of Danes Drive and stabbed one of them several times. Police are treating the attack as attempted murder.

His two friends, one male and one female, were not injured.

Detective Inspector Fil Capaldi said it was too early to speculate on the motive for the planned attack. Officers were yesterday speaking to the victim's friends and local residents.

Det Insp Capaldi said: "This was a violent and premeditated attack which was intended to cause the victim grave injuries."
