Local news: Film focuses on history of Leith Hospital

A FILM tracing the history of Leith Hospital is to be shown at South Leith Parish Church Hall on November 18.

The film, which lasts 25 minutes, will be shown at 2.30pm and organisers hope that the audience may be able to provide further information, images and memories to add to the archive of the hospital's history.

The Citadel Arts Group will then hold a reminiscence workshop to explore the living memories of people with links to the hospital.

A THEATRE production exploring the existential question of why the world was created is showing in the Capital.

Riding Lights Theatre Company's Origins and Lemons: Squeezing the Juice out of Genesis is showing at St Paul's and St George's Church, on Broughton Street, on December 8.

Army radio station is all write with book club

ARMY radio station Garrison FM has teamed up with Colinton Library to launch The Garrison FM Book Club.

The first books under review will be Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus novel The Naming of the Dead and Bill Bryson's The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid.

Garrison FM breakfast presenter Mark McKenzie said: "The fun part is sharing the books with others and seeing if they agree with you."

Botanics to host art display

WORK by artists with learning disabilities is to go on display at the Botanic Garden on November 14.

Judge for Yourself features painting, glass, ceramics, sculpture and textiles. It runs at the Fletcher Building from November 15 to December 5.

Raise glass to wine tasting

L'Art du Vin wine merchants is hosting a tasting of more than 70 wines in the Capital this week.

There will be wines from top producers in Champagne, the Loire, Spain, Australia and New Zealand at Merchants' Hall, Hanover Street, on November 5 from 6pm-9pm. Tickets cost 15.

ERI agrees to new food deal

A DEAL has been struck to equip the city's biggest hospital with a new frozen food supplier.

Terms have been agreed between Apetito, which also supplies produce for more than 150 UK hospitals, and the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

The ERI has previously come under fire for the quality of its food.
