Ross Monaghan, 28, was charged with murder at Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday afternoon. Monaghan, from Glasgow, also faced a firearms charge.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

He will appear before the court again on 10 August.

Carroll was alleged to have had links with the criminal underworld and survived a previous attempt on his life three years ago.

He was said to have survived another attempt on his life, three years earlier.

The career criminal, who was also known as Kevin McCabe, was a key figure in the Daniels crime family.

His funeral at Maryhill Crematorium in May, four months after the shooting, was attended by many figures from Glasgow's underworld.

After a 25-minute service, Carroll's coffin was driven to Clydebank before being then taken on a horse and carriage to Langfaulds Cemetery, Bearsden, for burial.

His family had been told his body could not be cremated while the investigation continued.
