A good causeway
That is a pity because with both options we had a chance to restore the reputation of Scottish engineering, now a global laughing stock, epitomised by the rusting cables on the Forth Road Bridge.
However, rather than saying "if only", we should be making sure that if a new bridge is needed there are sufficient safeguards built into legislation to ensure that the costs to the taxpayer are kept down.
