Farage criticism

John Brand of the European Movement condemns the speech made by Nigel Farage of UKIP when he lambasted Herman van Rumpoy in the European Parliament (Letters, 27 February).

Predictably, Mr Brand pointed out what a wonderful man Mr Rumpoy is, selflessly devoting himself to the cause of making us all happy Europeans in a unified continent by "consensus building". What Mr Brand fails to mention, however, is the cause of Mr Farage's attack.

Although he could have been more diplomatic, he had precious little reason to be. He is a man who, like most of us in the UK, is heartily sick of being dictated to by a country into which we have been pitchforked without consultation and which is run by individuals and authorities that govern without democratic consent.
