Hearing losses

I think the advertisement on page 10 of The Scotsman (2 June) is extremely misguided.

People with hearing problems should not try to conceal their deafness as if it was something to be ashamed of but should be open about it.

I have been using hearing aids for more than 30 years and I have always been quite open about it as it makes life much easier.

There is no need to spend hundreds of pounds on private hearing aids as I have found that the NHS Audiology Services provide an excellent service.

People never try to hide their glasses so why should we try to hide our hearing aids?

The refusal by deaf people to wear hearing aids causes great friction in many families and many deaf people spend hundreds of pounds which they can ill afford on private hearing aids when excellent hearing aids with a first-class service are available free on the health service.
