Letter: Senseless cuts

Stan Hogarth (Letters, 28 October) is not so much a heartless thug as an inconsistent one.

He describes many Scots as being unable to understand "self-reliance", then advocates putting many hard-working public sector workers out of work and pushing them onto benefits, thus removing their independence and increasing their reliance on the state.

He also believes that private companies could provide many services more efficiently; as a public sector employee of many years, I have observed that it is my friends who work in the private sector who have the time and unspoken permission to tweet, blog, e-mail, etc during working hours.
