TURNHOUSE AND RENFREW, 15 May, 1950

THE retention of Turnhouse and Renfrew as the chief airports for Edinburgh and Glasgow as against a new central airport for both cities was discussed by the Scottish Advisory Council For Civil Aviation in Glasgow on Saturday, when it was agreed to recommend the Scottish Aerodromes Board to try to arrange for the maintenance of both airports on a permanent basis.

Sir Patrick Dollan, who presided, stated after the meeting that the council were unanimous in this view, and as British European Airways were of a similar mind it was certain that every effort would be made to extend the facilities at Turnhouse and Renfrew so as to provide both cities with the best service available. The Scottish Council were agreed that it would be wiser to spend more money on development at Turnhouse and Renfrew than on the construction of a new airport which would not be so convenient for either city.
