Thatcher’s ghost

I’ve been waiting for that story about Tesco preparing to axe 10,000 jobs for a few months now.

The seeds of suspicion were first planted when my wife and I were persuaded to use Tesco’s version of Star Trek’s “tricorder” so that we could record our own shopping on a DIY basis with hardly any reference to a check-out assistant when it came to putting the credit card in the slot at the exit.

I was amazed that the staff couldn’t honestly see that coming. It’s the sort of thing that a strong trade union should be looking out for, but the ghost of Thatcher is still with us.
