STEVEN Slater is not the first employee to quit his job in dramatic fashion.

Journalist Adam Smith told the world he was stepping down from his position as reporter with a Birmingham newspaper. In the US covering Barack Obama's election victory two years ago, he posted a broadcast online announcing he was resigning to "set up my own magazine".

"**** you, I'm doing what I want to do," he declared.

Also in 2008, a disenchanted IT worker signed off with a parting rant on his last day.

Paul Cosford, who worked at North Cheshire Hospitals Trust, accused chief executive Catherine Beardshaw of being out of touch. "I don't know if you have ever worked on a pittance, Cath," he wrote. "Can you remember what it was like before your 100k+ a year job?"
