Pair knocked unconscious as gang of yobs attack

TWO men were knocked unconscious after being jumped by a gang of youths as they walked home from the pub in Musselburgh.

The men, aged 27 and 56, were rushed to hospital following the "nasty" attack, which happened in the early hours of Saturday morning.

They had been drinking in the town's Riverside pub, and were making their way home across the Roman Bridge.

The group, who are all believed to be between 18 and 20-years-old, set upon the pair and kicked them repeatedly on the head and body.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses to this attack which happened around 1.15am.

"It was a particularly nasty incident which has left two men with serious injuries to their face and head. We would like anyone with information to contact us."

The Riverside pub is part of the Musselburgh and District Pub Watch scheme, which aims to promote good behaviour in the area.

Acts of violence can result in customers being banned from drinking in all 12 of the premises which are signed up to the campaign.
