Police find hillwalker's body in back of van

A hillwalker's body has been found in the back of a van in a lay-by, police said today.

Officers found Michael Coffield, 28, at 10pm last night in the van parked at the side of the A93 Blairgowrie to Braemar road in Perthshire.

It is thought Mr Coffield, of Paisley, Renfrewshire, had been walking before he returned to the van in the Spittal of Glenshee area.

It is not believed cold weather contributed to his death and police are not treating the discovery as suspicious.

A spokesman for Tayside Police said: "It is understood that Mr Coffield, an experienced hillwalker, had been hillwalking prior to being found in his Renault Trafic box van, which was parked near to Finegand Farm.

"While there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, enquiries into the full set of circumstances are continuing and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

The cause of death has yet to be established.
