Police seize cocaine worth more than £300,000 in weekend raids

COCAINE with a street value of more than £300,000 was seized by police in two separate operations over the weekend, it was disclosed yesterday.

Equipment and mixing agents thought to have been used in a possible 2 million drugs operation were also recovered by Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency (SCDEA) officers.

Officers first took hold of more than three kilograms of cocaine, with an approximate street value of 128,000, after searching a vehicle in Duke Street, Hamilton. Two 30-year-old men were arrested in connection with the discovery on Friday evening.

The SCDEA said a flat in Hamilton was also searched as part of the operation and equipment and mixing agents pointing to the "adulteration and onward supply" of about 2 million worth of cocaine were uncovered and seized.

In a separate operation, SCDEA officers seized about five kilograms of cocaine in a raid on Sunday night at an unoccupied property in Brookfield, Johnstone.

Officers said they were following a positive line of inquiry in relation to the haul, which has an approximate street value of more than 200,000.

Detective Chief Superintendent Allan Moffat, head of investigations at the SCDEA, said: "Too many of Scotland's communities are affected by the fear, intimidation and violence associated with the illegal drugs trade.

"We are determined to target those responsible for this trade and to bring them to justice."
