Pupil has stamp of approval for first-class letter writing

A PUPIL from the city's Preston Street Primary has been shortlisted for a prize in a letter writing competition run by Royal Mail for schools in Scotland.

Catriona Chowings wrote an imaginative letter which impressed judges.

In her letter, the nine-year-old advises her character, who needed medical help: "I have had a lot of experience because my brother has been very ill in hospital. My Mum and Dad are doctors."

She added: "They tell me sometimes that doctors, even the cleverest ones, can't cure people and maybe your brother is just one of those people."

Catriona is one of five children shortlisted in this category and will receive a presentation pack of first-class stamps to encourage more letter writing. If she wins she will receive 150 in vouchers.

The theme was children's favourite books, a subject celebrated by Royal Mail through a set of stamps featuring Winnie the Pooh in October 2010.
