Royal Edinburgh's maintenance team praised

PATIENTS' representatives at the city's psychiatric hospital have praised maintenance staff.

The Royal Edinburgh Hospital's patients council said estate workers at the Morningside site were working hard to make it pleasant for patients and visitors.

Last month the Evening News revealed concerns about the state of the buildings there, with experts warning it could be damaging for patients' rehabilitation.

But project manager Dave Budd said while those concerns, surrounding the age and layout of most of the buildings, were still valid, NHS Lothian staff were working round the clock to make the best of the situation.

He said: "Staff's hard work upgrading, maintaining and coping with the existing buildings is appreciated by patients.

"The patients council works in partnership with estates and management to identify problems. It's only by working together we can get the results we need to benefit patients."
