Sex disease cases rocket

THE number of people in the Lothians suffering from genital herpes has more than doubled in the past ten years.

A report has shown there were 538 new cases in the area last year, compared to 250 in 2000. It is also an increase on last year, with 150 extra cases being reported at local clinics.

Health Protection Scotland also revealed high instances of other sexually transmitted diseases like chlamydia, which has shot up from 1200 in 2000 to more than 3000 now.
