Sikh temple blast injures two volunteers

TWO women were taken to hospital after an explosion at a Sikh temple yesterday.

The pair suffered lacerations to their legs following an explosion in the kitchen of the Sri Guru Nanak Gurdwara temple in Nelson Street in Dundee around 9am yesterday.

The explosion is thought to have been caused by a cooking appliance.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed two female Gurdwara volunteers were taken to Ninewells Hospital.

The women, aged 50 and 32, who were in the kitchen area, were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

A spokeswoman for Tayside Fire and Rescue, said: “We attended a small cooking explosion at the Sikh temple on Nelson Street, which resulted in injuries and some people being taken to hospital.

“We assisted by ensuring the area was safe, and helped paramedics with the casualties.”

Police appealed for any witnesses to contact them.
