A TODDLER had a lucky escape when he was knocked down metres from a city primary school yesterday afternoon.

The three-year-old boy was struck after running on to the road between parked cars on Sighthill Loan and was taken to the Sick Kids hospital with "non-serious" injuries.

It is understood police closed the road for a short time while the youngster received treatment from paramedics.

Resident Mark Purdie, 37, said the toddler was lucky not to have been more seriously hurt.

"The driver was going quite slowly so was able to stop in time and just seemed to bump the child. He was crying but his mum came over and picked him up. The whole thing was like slow motion."
