Blaze ravages East Lothian cul-de-sac home

More than 25 firefighters have tackled a large blaze which tore through a semi-detached house.

The emergency services received multiple calls to the property in a cul-de-sac in Tranent, East Lothian, shortly before 5pm yesterday.

Initial reports suggested the fire was already quite well developed and that people may still have been inside the Windygoul Crescent home.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said: “We mobilised three appliances from Tranent, Musselburgh and Newcraighall.

“The first appliances got on scene within minutes and got to work tackling a well-established fire within a ground floor.”

Luckily, no one was injured and all the occupants were out of the property when the firefighters arrived, the spokesman said.

“Our crews confirmed that all persons were accounted for and an ambulance wasn’t required.

“However, the fire did rapidly spread to the upper levels and roof space.”

The initial incident commander then requested further assistance and three more crews from East Linton, Dalkeith and Liberton were dispatched to the incident. A height appliance from Tollcross, Edinburgh, was also requested.

At least 25 firefighters were involved in the operation to bring the fire under control at the height of the operation.

Firefighters used four lines of hose, two high pressure hose reels, breathing equipment, thermal imaging cameras and ladders to check the fire’s spread and extinguish the flames.

A Red Cross van based at Dalkeith was also on the scene, providing supplies and support for the residents.
