Tributes left for two fall victims

FLOWERS have been laid for two people who fell to their deaths at the weekend.

A 31-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man were both killed in unrelated falls from windows in Edinburgh.

The man fell from a top floor flat in a converted mill complex on Cables Wynd in Leith at around 6pm on Sunday and was declared dead at the scene.

A source said: "They'd been having a party in a top floor flat and the lad has fallen out of the window onto the street below."

The street, opposite a Tesco Metro on North Junction Street, was closed after the incident as police investigated.

However, it is understood the death is not being treated as suspicious.

David Flynn of nearby Gladstone's bar said: "I couldn't get up the street last night at about 8:30pm. There were lots of police — in uniforms as well as what looked like CID."

A bunch of flowers was affixed to a lamp-post underneath the four-storey flat complex.

In a separate incident a woman plunged from a first-floor tenement flat in Edinburgh's New Town, also on Sunday.

It is understood she slipped from a window ledge and fell two floors to the basement area.She was declared dead at the scene after the incident, at about 2:30am on Sunday. It is understood there was a party taking place on the first floor.

Flowers had been attached to the railings outside the property yesterday. One note attached said: "You will be missed."

Lothian and Borders Police confirmed the incident was being treated as a tragic accident.

Police last night said they would not name either victim until both families had been informed.
