Two held over drugs in car at scene of man's murder

A MAN and a woman have been arrested after police found £25,000 of drugs in a car.

Strathclyde Police officers recovered the drugs - believed to be cocaine - from a vehicle in Cumbernauld yesterday.

The officers stopped a Volkswagen Golf on St Andrew's Drive near to Dobbie's Garden Centre and found the drugs after searching it.

The occupants of the car, a 26-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, were arrested and are being detained in connection with the alleged recovery.

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Three years ago a businessman was murdered in a gangland-style execution at the same location .

David Hughes, 41, sentenced to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of killing Andrew Best at Dobbies Garden Centre in June 2007.

John Maguire, 24, was sentenced to four years for culpable homicide for his part in the attack on Best.

The court heard at the time of the murder both Maguire and Best were targets of a police undercover drugs operation codenamed Operation Meadow.
