Patient offers to pay driver's costs

THE recipient of a life-saving organ transplant has offered to pay any fine or legal costs of an ambulance driver charged with speeding.

Mike Ferguson, who insisted he was only doing his job, was charged with the offence after being clocked by police doing 104mph. He could face losing his licence and his job if the case goes ahead.

The incident has caused uproar, with unions warning that lives could be lost if emergency drivers are not exempted from speed laws.

Steven Traylor, the recipient of the kidney, said paying any fine was "the right thing to do".
