Teacher set for ban after sexual jokes accusations

AN ORKNEY teacher who allegedly told his pupils sexual jokes is facing a ban from the classroom.

Kenneth Dickson, 30, is said to have told one boy a fellow teacher wanted “to rub baby oil on you” and telling a group of children that if they didn’t hurry up “we will be having a gangbang on the stairs”.

He also faces a charge of looking at a young schoolgirl’s breasts, while telling another pupil he was going to take pictures of her “in the bath”.

Mr Dickson, who taught maths and religious education at Westray Junior High School, Pierowall, Westray, is facing 13 allegations of communicating with children in an indecent manner while working at the school between 19 August and 26 September, 2008.

The teacher, who now lives in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, denies all the charges but failed to attend and defend himself at a disciplinary hearing of the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) in Edinburgh yesterday.

The charges include using the phrase, “If I catch you, you’re f***ed” while in the presence of Pupil E, and “stop having an orgasm” in the presence of Pupil A.

Mr Dickson began telling his class “unacceptable” sexual jokes just two weeks after starting at the school in August 2008, the GTCS panel was told.

The teaching body heard evidence from four pupils who all spoke of feeling uncomfortable during his classes.

Mr Dickson was suspended in October 2008 before being sacked by Orkney Islands Council in August 2009. The GTCS tribunal continues next week.
