Top election official ignores quit call

Russia’s top election official has shrugged off calls for him to step down over alleged fraud during last month’s parliamentary ballot.

Election chief Vladimir Churov said he intends to serve the remaining four years of his term. Observers said the 4 December vote was rigged to give premier Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party victory.
