Baptism of fire for Glasgow Mid Argyll

PREMIER League shinty returned to Glasgow for the first time in 13 years yesterday but Glasgow Mid Argyll (GMA) endured a harsh lesson from Bute.

Peterson Park in Yoker hosted the opening game of the 2010 season for George Hay's top-flight newcomers but it was Bute who shot out of the blocks with an impressive 4-0 victory, leaving Glasgow in no doubt as to what they face this term. Scotland forward Hector Whitelaw started Bute off with a 25th-minute penalty but GMA held on until a late slump. John MacCullum and a brace from Robert Walker completed the scoring and Bute top the table.

Fort William and Inveraray got off to winning starts under new management with Fort beating Oban 3-1 and Inveraray outfoxing Kyles 2-1.
