Cricket: Sardesai does it with half century to see off Grange II

Marchmont stalwart Aaron Sardesai passed 7,500 career league runs on Saturday as his half century helped the Cavalry Park men defeat Grange II in East One.

Batting first the hosts posted 217-8 from their 50 overs, Sardesai's 64 being supplemented by 48 from Will Collier and a useful 32 not out by Pete Maksimczyk.

Nirmal Gandhi then took 5-14 in a superb spell of bowling as the visitors were all out for just 88, Marchmont winning by 129-runs.

Elsewhere in the top flight Carlton II's defeated Boroughmuir in an exciting clash. Batting first Carlton II made 241-9, Steve Elder top scoring with 66. They then bowled out Boroughmuir for 219, Fraser Allardice the pick of the bowlers with 2-22 as they won by 22-runs.

Robin Worsnop and Shannon Bonfield both took three wickets as Holy Cross saw off Largo. Batting first, Largo were all out for 92 and Holy Cross reached their victory target for the loss of just one wicket.

Raja Sandhu took three wickets also as Fauldhouse bowled Murrayfield DAFS out for 106 in West Lothian. The hosts won by eight wickets, while Watsonians II won a low scoring affair in Glenrothes.

And Edinburgh have been suspended from the East League for the first half of the season due to a number of issues.
