Football news in brief: Burke and Bothroyd to exit Cardiff

CHRIS Burke and Jay Bothroyd will leave Cardiff this summer after the club revealed they would not be offering the duo new contracts. Bothroyd has been linked with a move to the Barclays Premier League, while former Rangers winger Burke will also leave the Welsh club as a free agent along with Adam Matthews, who will join Celtic, Gavin Rae and Martin John.

Dutch call up former Falkirk No 1 Krul

NETHERLANDS coach Bert van Marwijk has handed maiden call-ups to young goalkeeping duo Tim Krul of Newcastle and Jasper Cillessen. Former Falkirk loan signing Krul, 23, and 22-year-old Cillessen, of NEC Nijmegen, have been drafted in for next month's South American double-header against Brazil and Uruguay.

West Brom snap up Ipswich's McAuley

WEST Brom have confirmed the signing of central defender Gareth McAuley on a free transfer from Ipswich. The Northern Ireland international, 31, has signed a three-year contract which will keep him at The Hawthorns until summer 2014. McAuley made nearly 100 appearances in three years with Ipswich and has won 28 caps.

Brewster recruited by Crawley Town

CRAIG Brewster has joined the coaching staff of English League 2 newcomers Crawley Town, managed by Steve Evans. Brewster, who has been out of the game since leaving Ross County six months ago, will be working with fellow Scots Willie Gibson, who moved south from Dunfermline, and former Albion Rovers goalkeeper Scott Shearer.
