Platini to stand for Uefa re-election

UEFA president Michel Platini is to stand for re-election. The Frenchman is expected to be unopposed for the election at the Uefa Congress in Paris next year.

Platini told the Uefa Congress in Tel Aviv: "There is more work to do in the future so I am happy to announce to you that I am a candidate for re-election."

The announcement should end speculation that Platini was considering standing against Sepp Blatter as Fifa president next year.
