Gers keen on Armstrong

RANGERS could attempt to land Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong on a loan deal but face competition from other Championship outfits.

The 19-year-old hitman, who spent time on loan at Coventry last season, scored 20 goals for the Sky Blues but is likely to be sent out on loan by Rafa Benitez.

And Mark Warburton could try to tempt Armstrong north, with the Ibrox club due to find out the extent of Martyn Waghorn’s hamstring injury later today. (Scottish Sun)

Millers keen on Fisher

ROTHERHAM have been linked with a move for Celtic defender Darnell Fisher.

Millers boss Alan Stubbs could move for the 22-year-old, who is behind Mikael Lustig and Saidy Janko in the Parkhead pecking order.

Walker faces ban over penalty incident

JAMIE Walker could face a ban over the controversial penalty incident against Celtic, with compliance officer Tony McGlennan set to study footage before deciding whether or not to take action.

Brighton planning £500k bid for Johnson

BRIGHTON could test Motherwell’s resolve with a £500,000 bid for Marvin Johnson.

The Fir Park side knocked back a £300,000 bid from Oxford United, who are no longer chasing the winger, but the Seagulls’ offer is still short of Motherwell’s valuation of Johnson. (The Herald)

Rodgers reveals referee dossier

BRENDAN Rodgers has revealed he’s compiling a report on every Scottish referee.

Known for his in-depth research on opposing players, the former Liverpool boss extends that to include officials.

Rodgers said: “We study the referee. We look at the last 35 games of the ref and his form going into games. Does he give particular cards at a high level or not? Everything’s in there.” (Daily Record)

Killie target Gormley

KILMARNOCK could try to get Peterborough striker Joe Gormley on a loan deal.

The Belfast-born hitman notched 85 goals in 133 appearances for Cliftonville before joining the Posh on a three-year deal in July 2015.

But a serious knee injury kept him out for the entire season and Peterborough are reportedly keen on sending the 26-year-old out on loan to get game time. (Various)

QPR join race for Stewart

QUEENS Park Rangers have reportedly joined the chase for Dundee forward Greg Stewart.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been keeping tabs on the former Cowdenbeath ace and could make an offer for the 26-year-old.

Birmingham have already had a bid rejected but Stewart looks set to exit Dens Park if an offer of £400,000 is put on the table. (Scottish Sun)

Forrest U-turns on Celtic exit

JAMES Forrest appears happy to hold contract talks with Celtic, despite being tipped for a Parkhead exit earlier this summer.

Forrest scored the opening goal in Celtic’s 2-1 win over Hearts at the weekend and has looked like a different player under Brendan Rodgers.

Now the Scotland international could sit down with Celtic chiefs and discuss an extended stay with the Hoops. (Various)

Lennon called in Euro 2016 pundits to talk to Cummings

NEIL Lennon has revealed he called on his fellow Euro 2016 pundits to convince Jason Cummings to stay at Hibs for the foreseeable future.

Alan Shearer, Martin Keown, Rio Ferdinand, Dean Saunders and Chris Waddle all chatted to the Hibs ace amid rumours he was set to leave Easter Road.

But the young striker signed a new deal with Hibs, with Lennon adding: “I’m not sure how much that swayed him but they did all have a word.” (Evening News)

Juanma told to up his work ethic

HEARTS striker Juanma has been told to improve his work ethic if he wants to save his Hearts career.

Four new strikers have arrived over the summer - Robbie Muirhead, Tony Watt, Conor Sammon and Bjorn Johnsen - placing the future of last season’s top scorer in serious doubt.

Head coach Robbie Neilson said: “He’s not been doing great in training and games recently. He’s got to work hard and try and get himself back in the team.” (Evening News)
